The Resident Evil series has come a long way from that first mansion where the T virus was discovered. Taking the cue from Silent Hill, the Resident Evil series has branched out and this time, most of the gameplay is outdoors instead of in a crowded but empty city, or in a sole mansion.
The game takes place in different areas situated around Africa, where volcanic activity threatens to release a previously dormant virus. You’ll be playing Chris Redfield, which you may remember as one of the original members of the S.T.A.R team which invaded the mansion where the virus was discovered.
The shining star which concerns this game is the online co-op play. Never before have you been able to play online with a friend to complete the main campaign of the game. This is what Resident Evil 5 will be based around, co-op play. That’s not the say the game won’t have a great single player aspect, but everyone knows that two heads are better than one.
Capcom recently released a few more screenshots of the horror survival game, with many of the screenshots highlighting the games cooperative aspect. The game will be released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It is slated to hit Japan around March 12th, and a European and North American release will follow on March 13th. For us, March just can’t get here fast enough.
Fallout 3 is perhaps the most anticipated non-MMORPG since the release of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. The game is set in a post apocalyptic world with the beginning of the game seeing your character emerging from the nuclear shelter for the first time.
The game pulls this off expertly, with the first thing you’ll be seeing are the bones and picket signs of those left outside to die. It’s a bit stunning at first, but heading above ground into the Wasteland is everything you would imagine it to be.
Your characters eyes must adjust to being above ground after several years underground. What’s left of the world above is what you’ve seen from old pictures detailing the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The area is a ghost town, with nothing but a few burned out cars and the remnants of a few wooden buildings.
The game’s control system is called the Pip-Boy 3000, which lets you access all local and world maps, though initially, just as in Oblivion, there won’t be any landmarks on the map. The Pip-Boy presents all the information you’ll need, including your inventory, weapons, your food items, and any information regarding your quests. It also picks up local radio stations, which change as you move around the game world.
It seems like Bethesda has really polished Fallout 3 to follow in the footsteps of the two games before it, while being both innovative and graphically superior. There are clear elements which were taken from Oblivion and implemented in this post-nuclear world, but the formula works well. Fallout 3 is scheduled to hit the shelves on October 28th for PC, 360, and the PS3.
The New Xbox Experience, or NXE as it’s being dubbed by gamer sites everywhere, is getting pretty interesting. We’re about a month and a half from seeing the shiny new update go live on consoles and the added Netflix support, which was tasty already, will include an additional feature which is almost too good to pass up, even for casual movie watchers.
Apparently, Netflix has teamed up with Stars Play in order to offer movies which will be available for instant streaming through Netflix at no additional cost to Netflix members. The feature will be available to all Netflix members, not just those who happen to have an Xbox in their home. But, when the New Xbox Experience launches this fall, 360 owners with unlimited Netflix subscriptions will have access to Starz Play’s library of over 2,500 movies and TV shows, on both their computers and their 360s.
The Starz Play library is the newest addition among 12,000 already available choices within the Netflix library, which is already quite impressive. Star Play will be adding favorite movies such as Ratatouille, Superbad, Spiderman 3, and the Harry Potter series.
